After the concert, Paetyn attempted to get through the hoard of “teenies” (as she and Danni
called Nick’s pre-pubescent fans) to the man himself. Paetyn even heard
one little girl have the audacity to attempt to explain to a security guard that she (said little girl) was Paetyn Erickson,
Nick’s best friend. The guard calmly asked the young lady if she thought
he was stupid, and if she was aware of the fact that the short brunette heading past them at that very moment was Paetyn Erickson. Apparently these girls weren’t aware that Denver was Paetyn’s town. The little girl stuttered and stammered about how that girl couldn’t be Paetyn
because SHE was Paetyn and could she please see Nick right away and what did he mean she needed a VIP pass, she was Nick’s
closest girl friend in the world! Paetyn and Danni just giggled at the whole
scene.
Once they were able to actually GET backstage, they had to wait for a while while Nick and the rest of
the guys signed autographs and did all their PR smiling for the camera stuff. Paetyn
herded Danni over to where Leighanne was trying to calm a frantic Baylee who knew his daddy was SOMEWHERE!!
Paetyn stole Baylee from Leighanne and cooed to him, “hey Baylee boy.
Daddy’s just workin’ sweetie. Huh? How bout that? How bout hangin’ out with Auntie Pae? How about that?” Baylee drooled
a toothy grin at her.
“So how’d the show go?” Leighanne asked.
“Didn’t you get to see it, Leigh?”
“No, Baylee’s getting a tooth, and I think he’s getting sick, so he’s been cranky
and fussy for a couple days now. He would have just screamed if I’d taken
him out front.”
“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that, Little Man,” Paetyn continued to coo – which had calmed
Baylee considerably.
She felt a warm pair of hands over her eyes and a soothing voice in her ear, saying “Guess who Paeday?”
“My favorite Backstreet boy?” Paetyn questioned.
“Ding ding ding, what do we have for her, Johnny?” Nick
asked.
“OH Alex! I’m so excited to see—oh. It’s just you,” she teased Nick.
“Seriously, Pae, you’re going to give the boy a complex,” Danni warned.
“Too late, Danno. Ever heard of ‘small-man’s
complex?’” the real AJ teased Nick.
“Aw, Man, how the hell would you know?” Nick whined.
“You’re exactly right, Frack. I wouldn’t
know anything about that.”
“Oh, Jeezuz, Bone, shut up,” Brian wandered over to join their group. Baylee began frantically reaching for his daddy so Brian took him from Paetyn, tossing him up slightly.
“So are we going out tonight, or what?” AJ asked.
“Nah, I was thinkin’ Pae and I could go watch a movie or something,” Nick replied.
“Sure. I go out in Denver enough. But y’all are welcome to go without us.”
“Whaddya say, Danno? Accompany me to the club?”
AJ offered his arm.
“Sure, why not. Maybe there’ll be a real man there.”
“OOOOOOOOH. OUCH, Danno!
Good one,” Leighanne giggled.
“Nothin’ hurt but my pride,” AJ sniffed.
“So which Aliens are we watching tonight, Kaos? One
two or three?”Paetyn asked.
“Four?” Nick asked in a little boy voice.
“Is that out ALREADY?!”
“Mhm, and Aaron sent it to me the other day and I haven’t had a chance to watch it.”
“Oh good lord. What I won’t do for this boy.”
Paetyn and Nick excused
themselves from the group and headed for Nick’s dressing room. When they
got there, he changed into a gray tee-shirt, black track pants, and Nikes. Pulling
a baseball cap low over his eyes and slipping on some Oakley’s, he took Paetyn’s hand to lead her out of the venue.
